Content & Resource Policies

This page defines the policies VJN uses to ensure we have accurate, up-to-date, content and resource listings, and the rights to use it.

Content/Resources we link to (offsite)

  • Will be linked to the organization that owns the rights to the content in our organization database.
  • We will only link to publically available content. We will not link to content that requires an account or other authorization to view.
  • We will take a passive approach to permission: we will send the organization an email letting them know we are linking to their site and how we are doing so.  If they do not what us to do so they will need to respond.

See ‘Content Presentation’ below for how offsite content and resources will be presented

Note this section also applies to resources and pdfs which we link to.  For resources/pdfs we will link to a landing page if possible (most relevant for pdfs) to avoid version problems.

Content we reprint on our site (onsite)

  • Will be linked to the organization that owns the rights to the content in our organization database.
  • We will take an active approach to permission: we will need to get positive conformation that we can reprint the  content before we publish it.  This can be stored with the organization (in our organization database) or with the content (in the legal tab).

See ‘Content Presentation’ below for how it will be presented

Note this section also applies to pdfs which we may host

Content we create (onsite VJN content)

  • Will be copyright VJN
  • If consent of people or organizations referred to in the content is required the consent will be stored with the content (in the legal tab)

Content Presentation

Headlines: non-VJN content headlines will be vetted for offensive or inflammatory references.  We may alter the headline to tone down the language. We may also put “Opinion: “ or “Editorial: “ in front of the headline to make it clear it is someone’s opinion.  For reprinted (onsite) content we will need to get permission for this change along with the permission to reprint the content.

Source: we will always show a source for all content, both in the list view (search results) and in the article view (full content).  It will be automatically generated from the organization, and whether it is onsite (reprinted) on not.  For VJN content we’ll show our copyright.

Content / Resource Listing Review

All content has a date of publication(or last review) so it can be reviewed on a periodic basis
