Ontario invests $1.7 M for community safety
The Ontario government is investing $1.7 million over the next two years to help fund community-led safety and corrections projects in the province.
The province is seeking applications for the 2016-2018 Safer and Vital Communities Grant to fund projects that address community safety concerns, diversion opportunities or will reduce the likelihood of offenders to re-offend.
All victim services agencies, as well as organizations that are community-based, not-for-profit or sponsored by incorporated organizations and First Nations Chiefs and Band Councils can apply for the grant. Applicants will have to partner with their local police service, as well as at least one organization in a sector different from their own.
The Safer and Vital Communities Grant has provided $8.6 million to support 343 projects across the province since 2004.
The applications for the grant are due May 4 and the successful applicants will be announced in July.
