Child Abuse and Neglect

Children are one of the most vulnerable sectors of society and rely on their parents or caretakers to provide them with the necessities of life, love and guidance.

Child victims can be subject to physical, emotional or sexual abuse at the hands of people they trust. Children can also become victims of neglect of they are denied the necessities of life. Warning signs of abuse or neglect include poor hygiene, a child isn’t growing and they are often absent from school.

A recent Canadian Medical Association Journal study showed that 32 per cent of Canadians have experienced physical or sexual abuse or were exposed to domestic violence while they were a child.
