Ontario supports survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced in August that Ontario will invest $1.1 million a year for the next three years for treatment centres for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Wynne said in her announcement on Aug. 21 at The Scarborough hospital that the new funding will be use for hospital-based sexual assault and domestic violence treatment centres.

Around $900,000 per will be used to enhance existing specialized counselling services across the province, with an additional $200,000 to develop a province-wide community outreach program.

Wynne also announced that the treatment centre at The Scarborough Hospital will receive more than $28,000 in funding.

The funding announcement was part of the government’s action plan to stop sexual violence and harassment by providing hospital-based treatment centres and 24/7 access to care.
